    Leamington Hotel Review
Posted by: CruiseReporter on Monday, April 18, 2011 - 06:51 PM
    hotel-reviews
We arrived at the Leamington Hotel via private car from Ft. Lauderdale airport for an overnight stay for a cruise that leaves from Miami. The Leamington Hotel is smack in the middle of downtown Miami on First street, and is just minutes away from the Port of Miami. The outside of the hotel was not very impressive- a simple glass door and an old sign that says "Hotel Leamington" hanging above the street. There were also boxes being delivered through the main entrance when we arrived (around 4 PM in the afternoon). When we walked inside it seemed more like an office building setup. Pretty much no decorations, nothing fancy. You get a simple key with a plastic tag w/ the room number in it. We were assigned a room up at the top floor, which was the 4th floor.

The elevator was literally from the 1920s (Great Depressions era?) with a manual gate and required hands on operation from a dedicated elevator operator. The guy was friendly and helped us w/ our luggage. We had 3 large luggage and a stroller and required 2 trips.

The room itself- very very old and pretty small. The carpet on the floor was wrinkled and the floor creaked. There was no thermostat but at least cold air was coming through the vent. The furniture was basic and modern-styled, but at least things seemed clean. The lone window was sealed shut though it didn't do a good job of blocking sound from the streets. The beds were comfortable though a tad small at queen size. We were able to sleep through the night without incident.

For dinner the Cvi Che 105 restaurant is literally the next door down. In the morning the Leamington offered free breakfast until 10 AM. We got down to the lobby at 9:45 and there were only some muffin-like cake left and jam. There was complimentary shuttle that took us to the Port of Miami which was a nice positive. Our shuttle left at 10:45 AM, and we were told that another shuttle was available at 3 PM.

Overall the Leamington is a very basic place to stay. If you don't mind the shabbiness of the room and are only staying one night, it's an acceptable option especially if you have a cruise from the Port of Miami the next day.

Chesterfield Hotel Review and Bad Chelsea Hotel Service
Posted by: CruiseReporter on Sunday, March 21, 2010 - 10:01 AM
    hotel-reviews
We flew into Fort Lauderdale airport via Jetblue. The flight was smooth- Jetblue is definitely one of the best airlines (if not the best) we have flown. We arrived at Ft Lauderdale at 3:30 PM and use the Go Shuttle to transfer to our South Beach Miami hotel. The van was full and by the time we got to the hotel it was 5:30 PM because of the traffic and all the stops. We went with Go Shuttle because it cost $48 including tips whereas we heard that taxi would have cost $75. If I had to write a review of Go Shuttle Miami/Ft Lauderdale it would be a 3 out 5. The wait for the shuttle at the airport was long, the trip was long, but you save some money. Would we use them again- probably not.

The hotel we booked was a boutique hotel called the Chelsea Hotel. Upon arrival, the reception guy told us that we've been "upgraded" to the junior suite at the Chesterfield Hotel. I was not happy about it- firstly I doubted it was an "upgrade", and secondly they should have called me if they needed to move us. Although the Chesterfield Hotel not too far at 2 1/2 blocks away, we had two large luggage and had to lug them across busy traffic intersections. At the Chesterfield we had to go about 2 buildings down to a building called Lily for our room. The room itself had nice modern decor but was a bit dark. It was even closer to the beach which was only a block away so we thought hey maybe this was really an "upgrade".

We then went to Miami Beach beach area at Lummus park and spent about half an hour there before the sun went down and the weather started to get a tad too chilly. When we returned to our Chesterfield hotel room to change, we noticed this loud music blasting next door from the "lounge" at Hotel Leon. It was about 6:30 so we didn't think too much of it.

After eating at Puerto Sagua and walking around the streets some more we returned to our room at the Chesterfield Hotel. The music was still blaring. It was about 9:30 PM so we though okay maybe they'll stop at 10 because that's what the Chesterfield Hotel receptionist said when we asked about it earlier. At 15 minutes past midnight the music was still blasting and the college kids were still hollering at the top of their lungs, so we called front desk and the the guy said he would "take care" of it. Sure enough the music was turned down and the yelling seemed to subside. 15 minutes later, however, everything was back on full blast including all the hooting and hollering. I waited until 1:30 AM and called front desk to complain again- he seemed sympathetic and said he would take care of it and talk to the manager of the property. About 5 minutes later the sounds did seem to die down a bit, but sure enough 10 minutes later all the noise was back, this time maybe even louder. At 2:45 AM I decided to call the South Beach police department, who directly me to another #. A woman picked and said she would send someone over to check it out. I don't think anybody showed up because the extremely loud music and yelling and partying lasted all the way until 6 AM, and we were able to sleep finally at around 6:30 AM.

This was the worst hotel experience we've had. If you ever plan on staying at the Chesterfield Hotel or the Chelsea Hotel- please do yourself a favor and don't because you may very well regret it.

Extended Stay America Extended Stay America Miami Brickell Port Of Miami Review
Posted by: CruiseGuy on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 - 10:03 PM
    hotel-reviews

I don't have many great things to say about the Extended Stay America at Brickell-Port of Miami. Check-in was extremely slow as we had to wait about 15 minutes before the attendant finished with a customer in front of us. The room was fairly clean, and there was a small kitchen too, but everything was old and musty. You can also easily hear the other people's conversations- the rooms aren't exactly sound proof. They offered high speed internet via Wifi for $5/day which wasn't too bad- though free would've been better. Also they don't give you shampoo so make sure you've brought your own. The price was extremely cheap, so I can live with the negatives. But next time we will probably spend the extra money for a hotel at South Beach. If you intend to visit South Beach that's what I'd recommend too because the cab ride from the Extended Stay America Brickell to the beach costed almost $30 one-way. So you're looking at about $60 of taxi fare that you could have spent on a better hotel at or near Miami beach. The Extended Stay is closer to the Port, so we did save some money there on transportation the next day going to the Cruise Port.

The Verdict: This hotel is inexpensive, but you're better off with a nicer hotel near the beach if you're planning to visit there.
