Thurgau Gold Runs Aground on Rhine River in Bonn

The river cruise ship Thurgau Gold ran aground on the Rhine River near Bonn, Germany, on Thursday. The vessel made bottom contact on a sandbank during a docking maneuver, eventually coming to rest sideways across the river. Fortunately, none of the 75 passengers or 40 crew members were injured during the incident. A freighter successfully pulled the ship free later that afternoon, and it was moved to a safe location for investigation. It is a reminder of how river levels can significantly impact navigation.
