We were on a Norwegian EPIC cruise last week. On Friday, 2-22-2013, we were supposed to call upon the port of Nassau, Bahamas. But instead the Captain Sverre Sovdsnes of the Norwegian EPIC made an announcement that the port will be missed because of "scheduling error" by the port authority. WOW. This was certainly a first for us- we definitely were not happy about it. Even though most of the fault is probably on the Port of Authority of Nassau, perhaps NCL did not do its due diligence as it should have. We certainly would have appreciated an alternative port to visit instead of having another sea day. We did receive $45.50 in refund of Government Fees and taxes (2 adults + 1 toddler), but again it was very disappointing for this to have happened. Here is the letter we received:
February 22, 2013
Dear Valued Guest:
We hope that you have enjoyed your week aboard the beautiful Norwegian Epic. We are writing to you today to inform you of an itinerary change.
We have been contacted by the Port of Nassau, Bahamas today to advise that there is not a berth available for us because of a scheduling error by the port authority, and therefore we will remain at sea today and arrive in Miami as per our schedule on Saturday morning. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this scheduling conflict and we thank you for your patience and understanding.
Because of the missed port of call, you will receive a refund of the Government Taxes and Fees to your on board account before the end of your cruise.
For guest who purchased shore excursions through Norwegian Cruise Line for Nassau, you reservations will automatically be cancelled and you will receive a refund to your on board account. A new Freestyle Daily with an update to today's activities will be available at the Guest Services desk.
We appreciate your understanding. On behalf of all the officers and crew aboard Norwegian Epic we hope that you enjoy all the fun activities on board today.
Sincerely,
Captain Sverre Sovdsnes Norwegian Epic
