One of the highlights of a vacation aboard the Oasis of the Seas/Allure of the Seas is the DreamWorks Parade which occurs towards the end of the cruise. This was one of the family-friendly attractions offered by Royal Caribbean that stacked up well against the offerings by Disney Cruise Line (read our review of the Disney Wonder). During our recent Transatlantic Cruise on the Oasis, we were treated to this spectacle on the 7th day at around 12:30 PM (same as the first parade time). It happened at the vast Royal Promenade area on deck 5 of the ship, and lasted about 20 minutes. Nice places to sit and watch the show included the seats in front of Globe and Atlas Pub, Sorrento Pizza, and the balcony on Deck 6 forward if you are okay with standing.
Before the parade began, the props were being readied. Here you have an Chinese Dragon on sticks.
There were signs in Chinese as well. For instance, the first two characters mean "Bravery".
The festivities were starting, and like the first Oasis parade, the metal Earth construct above the Globe & Atlas bar opens up.
This was a air-filled pagoda where you see Master Shifu on the bottom level, and a group of willing disciples up above.
The parade begins as this talented and strong acrobat gymnast suspends himself horizontally 30 feet in the air.
From the animated feature How to Train a Dragon, Astrid was played by a blonde lady and Chief Stoick was in full costume.
He is supposed to be a jester, I believe.
Stoick the Vast has quite the powerful arm! Here you also see Pinocchio on the bridge that extended out from the globe.
Toothless the Dragon looks a bit like Gozilla there.
Tall one is Kowalski though I'm not certain which one the shorter penguin is.
Here they all line up and started dancing for the crowd.
Not sure what the names are for these small wheel bicycles.
Astrid was wearing super-thick boots and spiked skirt.
The dragon needed 5 crew members to hoist.
Now Po the Kung Fu Panda, who was seen pretty often throughout the entire cruise, makes his way into the parade.
Gloria the Hippo from Madagascar, who we saw earlier in the cruise at the DreamWorks Character Breakfast, waves "Hi".
Alex the African Lion now faces off with Gloria.
King Shrek and Princess Fiona now join the fun.
These costumes remind a bit of the whirling dervish.
Here is Po again, and you see a Knight with a Lance on a "horse".
One of the ship's show performers is dressed up as a princess sitting on the acrobat hoop in the air.
Nice bikes which were not easy to handle.
Here comes everyone's favorite kitty, Puss in Boots! We saw him everywhere on board- even at the jogging track.
Pinocchio and a fairy tale Princess intermingle with Penguins of Madagascar- this could only happen at the DreamWorks parade!
Alas, the spectacle was over, and the crew did a fantastic job cleaning up and removing the props.
So as you can see, the DreamWorks Parade is a fun event you don't want to miss aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship if they offer it. Get to the promenade at least 15 minutes early so you can get a good spot. Kids and fans of the movies will especially enjoy it- our little one liked it a bunch.
Here is the Youtube video we took of the parade:
