I have an interesting story to share. 2 weeks ago, I had booked a 7 night Bermuda cruise on Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas for myself, my wife, and 2-year-old. It was $549 per person for adults and $349 for my toddler, and booked with "Company A". Then today I see a special on Travelzoo advertising the same cruise for $349, posted by "Company B". I thought hey, my final payment is not until July, so getting the price drop applied to my cruise should be a cinch.
I was wrong. I called my travel agency, and it turned out that the deal price offered by company B was for DOUBLE OCCUPANCY only. Even though the cabin was the same size, it was not possible to get the same price if it were TRIPLE OCCUPANCY. This could be due to the fact that some rooms may not meet fire code if it had more than 2 people inside, explained my travel agent.
Then I noticed that the price was being listed as $529 for company A for the same cruise, so I asked for a reduction from them. It turned out that the $529 was again for DOUBLE OCCUPANCY only, and the triple occupancy price was still at $549. One hour on the phone for pretty much nothing, lol.
So the lesson here is pretty much if you have 3 or more people in a cabin (most likely the
one or two extra passengers are kids), don't expect to get the best price, even
though you are paying for the third person. ![]()
